The criminal underworld in the city of Empire Bay will soon emerge out of the shadow as the release date for Mafia II closes in. Ever since 2K Games announced the official release date for the next chapter in the Mafia series, fans have been awaiting its advent on several gaming platforms. Now, 2K Games has rolled out the red carpet for the release of Mafia II with a lineup of events which span across Facebook, Pandora and three major cities in the US.
Starting with the online virtual world, the developer has initiated the Mafia II Hit List application on Facebook. The app will allow members of the social networking site to don the role of a mob boss and put out hits on their friends. Those who put maximum hits on their friends will stand a chance to feature in the Top 5 Hitmen and Top 5 Most Wanted hit lists.
The second component of the event includes a Mafia II Mix Tape. Gamers with Pandora subscription can indulge in some of the 120 songs incorporated into the title. This collection comprises soundtracks such as ‘Ain’t that a kick in the head’ by Dean Martin, ‘Mambo Italiano’ by Rosemary Clooney, ‘It Don’t Mean A Thing’ by Duke Ellington, ‘Boom Boom’ by John Lee Hooker, ‘Rave On’ by Buddy Holly and more. The compilation reflects the music from the 40’s and 50’s period along with songs from other eras as well.
The promotion will reach its final turn with Mafia II Community Launch Events. The Community Launch Parties will be held in Chicago, Miami and New York City. Gamers in Chicago can enjoy the event hosted by SFX-360 on August 21, 2010 while players in Miami and NYC can take their chances to become a Made Man on August 22 and 28, 2010, respectively. Gamertag Radio is said to conduct the event at the two locations which will allow players to lay their hands on Mafia II demo. This demo is expected to offer a 3D Vision Surround experience to gamers.
Mafia II is slated for an August 24, 2010 release in North America while the game will hit stores in Australia and other parts of the World on August 26 and 27, 2010, respectively. The title will be released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
