Bungie Contemplated on Halo 4 Before Formulating Reach

The FPS title Halo: Reach is slated to unveil into stores this September. In the past couple of months, we reported about the official release date, a multiplayer beta and details on a limited and legendary. Now we see a new bit of information unraveling on the upcoming Halo prequel. It appears that game developer Bungie was earlier thinking about continuing Master Chief’s story with a Halo 4 game instead of the prequel entitled Halo: Reach.

Halo Reach

Community director at Bungie Brian Jarrard told MTV Multiplayer blog, “Even before the idea to build a game based around Reach came about, a lot of other concepts were explored, up to and including a proper ‘Halo 4,’ where Master Chief was going to wake up from cryo-sleep and we were going to tell that story.”

He further added that this interesting notion never saw the light of day as “it just wasn’t as interesting to the team to just pick up where that left off and all the baggage that came with it.” They however decided on formulating a new title that would smoothly merge into the events that would follow in Halo: Combat Evolved.

As the company suggests, Reach will be the final Bungie-developed Halo title. The announcement of the last game being a prequel may have brought on a feeling of disappointment to some fans as they may have been looking forward to see Master Chief’s story continuing in the latest game as well.
