Free Cave Story Demo, HB Arcade Disc Golf And More Offered on WiiWare

A freeware platform-adventure video game Cave Story was released back in 2004. Programmed and design in a span of five years by Daisuke Amaya, the game was intended to be homage to classics such as Metroid and Castlevania. A free demo of this classic side-scroller is being presented on WiiWare this week along with its full version and two new games, specifically Airport Mania: First Flight and HB Arcade Disc Golf.

HB Arcade Disc Golf

Granting permissions to land on eight airports with a range of different planes, Airport Mania enables players to manage the airport scene by purchasing upgrades, avoiding delays, setting priorities and ordering relevant repairs as needed. Including unique challenges, quirky characters and commuting fun, Airport Mania: First Flight is published by Lemon Games and is now available via the WiiWare service.

Bringing the widely-played disc-flinging sport right into the living rooms, HB Arcade Disc Golf has players putting the disc in a basket in the least attempts possible. The game offers disc golfers with three different types of discs to use, namely a driver, a mid-range disc and a putter along with three different types of throws to maneuver, which are forehand, backhand and the hammer throw. The handedness of players will determine the on-screen orientation in the forehand and backhand throws which can be employed to fade or draw a shot, whereas the Hammer throw emphasizes height over distance. The player with the lowest score wins at the end of the round when scores are counted.

Additionally, at hand from the WiiWare service is Cave Story which is also available from the DSiWare this week. The game follows the story of a quiet, amnesiac boy who finds himself astray in a dark cave near Mimiga Village, and sets out on an adventure to free the once-carefree rabbit-like creatures Mimiga from a maniacal scientist. A free demo of Cave Story can now be downloaded from the service.

Alongside the previously mentioned weekly pleasantries, Nintendo has brought the NeoGeo platformer Magical Drop II on a wider gaming plane with its Virtual Console. Released by Data East way back in 1996, Magical Drop II is a puzzle action game where players get to govern the clown to pull in and throw back the balloons that emerge on the screen. With some of the balloons possessing their own unique characteristics such as Special balloons that are painted in four colors which pop every balloon of the same, three balloons of same color aligned vertically makes them burst.

Including various types of distinctive balloons like Arrow Balloons that burst everything in a single direction, the game features Rainbow balloons having the same effect as special balloons except that they can be thrown against a balloon of any color and Bubble balloons which are of no aid in the gameplay. Delivering great chains and combos, Magical Drop II offers a VS CPU Mode and Puzzle Mode that support player-versus-player action.

With demo of Cave Story available at no cost, players can purchase the full version for 1,200 Wii Points. While gamers can enjoy Airport Mania: First Flight for 500 Wii Points, HB Arcade Disc Gold can be bought for 1,000 Wii Points whereas Magical Drop II can be obtained for 900 Wii Points.
