The thousands of fan petitions which were addressed to BioWare compelling it to alter the ending of Mass Effect 3 will finally bear fruit on June 26 when the Extended Cut DLC for the game is slated to release. Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, this free content will proffer gamers with a ‘deeper insight’ into Commander Shepard’s journey based on player choices.
Gamers must note that in order to experience the Extended Cut, they must load a save game from before the attack on the Cerberus Base and play through to till the end of the game. BioWare has revealed that more of the ‘answers and closure that players have been asking for’ will form part of this DLC. Furthermore, the content will also provide an insight into the future of the galaxy based on the decisions made throughout the series.
“To experience the Extended Cut, load a save game from before the attack on the Cerberus Base and play through to the end of the game. The Extended Cut endings will differ depending on choices made throughout the Mass Effect series, so multiple playthroughs with a variety of different decisions will be required to experience the variety of possibilities offered by the new content,” Mass Effect 3’s Lead Writer, Mac Walters, mentioned in a Q&A with BioWare’s community manager.
The size of this download is being said to be around 1.9GB, and it has been confirmed by the developer that it will in no way change the title’s ending, but will instead expand over the original one. Mass Effect 3 was released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in March this year, and has since grabbed rave reviews for its action RPG gameplay. We gave it a perfect 10 score in ours. It is also slated to launch for the Wii U in the future.
The Extended Cut DLC for Mass Effect 3 will be launched worldwide for free via Origin and Xbox Live on June 26. While North American PSN members will get it on the same date, PS3 gamers from around the world will have to wait until July 4 to be able to download it.
